the Alarming Situation of 20 Journalists Imprisoned in Ethiopia
Twenty (20) journalists are arbitrarily detained in Ethiopia
since November 2005. The Ethiopian Free Press Journalists
Association (EFJA) is completely disbanded, there is no
more independent media in Ethiopia, most independent journalists
had gone underground, one hundred (100) journalists are
in exile, including the president of the EFJA Kifle Mulat
(shackled on photo).

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) today said it is supporting the Press Union of Liberia's (PUL) campaign to reform the country's media laws. The union and other groups yesterday submitted three media bills to the National Legislature of Liberia.

 [17 April 2008] Somalia: Somali Police Closedown Private Radio Station, Arrest Journalists National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) today condemns the closure of Radio Voice of Peace in Mogadishu and the subsequent arrest of four its journalists and technician. Heavily armed police force of the Transitional Federal Government riding in a minibus raided this morning the radio station, ordered its staff to get out their offices and shutdown the privately-owned FM station, according to Mohammed Ali Irole, Director of the Radio Station and other journalists.

 [17 April 2008] Liberia: PUL Campaigns for Media Laws Reform The Liberia Media Law and Policy Reform Working Group, under the auspices of the Press Union of Liberia, will tomorrow, 17 April submit three sets of bills to the National Legislature for enactment.
Media professionals, civil society actors and interested individuals will assemble at the Union's headquarters beginning at 9 in the morning to march to the Capitol Building to present the proposed laws to the lawmakers. [more...]
